Type A × Type OBlood type compatibility
Type A — The Perfectionist Type O — The Natural Leader
The pairing Japanese magazines print at the top of the chart. A brings the care, O brings the decision, and neither one has to fight for the role they wanted.
For entertainment only. Blood type compatibility (ketsueki-gata aishō) is a popular Japanese cultural belief and is not supported by science. Please don’t use it to make real relationship decisions.
How Type A sees Type O
To a Type A, Type O is a relief. Someone finally picked the restaurant. Someone said out loud that the plan was fine. A spends a lot of energy trying not to inconvenience people, and O is the rare person who simply announces what they want — which frees A from guessing. A reads that decisiveness as strength, not rudeness.
How Type O sees Type A
To a Type O, Type A is the person who catches everything O moved too fast to see. O tends to drive, and driving with someone who quietly checks the map is comfortable rather than annoying. O also notices, usually late, that A has been doing small kindnesses for weeks without mentioning any of them.
What works
The division of labour is clean and neither side resents it. O sets direction; A makes it survivable. In practice that means O books the trip and A remembers the chargers, the medicine, and which restaurant is closed on Tuesdays. Neither is doing the other's job badly, which is the usual reason pairings grind.
Where it breaks
The failure mode is quiet. A absorbs small annoyances rather than raising them, and O — moving quickly, assuming silence means agreement — doesn't notice the ledger filling up. When it finally comes out, O is genuinely surprised, which A reads as proof they were never listening. Nothing dramatic caused it. Two months of unspoken small things did.
By situation
- Dating — Warm and low-drama. O plans, A notices. The relationship tends to look settled early, sometimes earlier than either would admit.
- At work — One of the more effective pairs. O fronts the meeting, A owns the delivery. Give O the client and A the checklist and things ship.
- As friends — The friendship where one person always suggests and the other always makes it work. Both are secretly grateful.
One thing that helps
O: ask A directly what they think, then wait through the pause. A: say the small thing on the day it happens, not in month three.
