How Type A sees Type AB
To a Type A, Type AB is interesting and slightly unreadable — someone who says one accurate sentence after twenty minutes of silence. A's habit of monitoring other people's moods pays off here, because AB gives out very little and A can pick up most of it anyway. That's rare for AB, and they notice.
How Type AB sees Type A
To a Type AB, Type A is restful. A doesn't demand performance, doesn't fill silences, doesn't take a quiet mood personally — at least not out loud. AB tends to feel slightly on display around louder types; around A they don't. AB also spots quickly that A is harder on themselves than on anyone else, and often says the one thing that helps.
What works
Both value depth over volume, so the relationship skips the small talk stage and lands somewhere real quickly. AB gives A the thing A rarely gets — someone reading them for a change. A gives AB the thing AB rarely gets — someone patient enough to wait out the processing.
Where it breaks
Neither one initiates conflict. AB withdraws to think; A interprets withdrawal as something they did wrong and becomes more careful, which reads to AB as distance, which extends the withdrawal. The loop is entirely made of consideration, which is what makes it hard to spot.
By situation
- Dating — Quiet, deep, and slow to start. Once it's real, it tends to be durable — but it can go weeks without either person saying anything difficult.
- At work — Excellent on anything that rewards judgment. AB frames the problem, A executes it properly. Weak on anything needing someone to bang the table.
- As friends — Long silences, no awkwardness, occasional messages that land exactly right. Low-maintenance and hard to lose.

AB: say “I need a day” out loud instead of just taking it. A: assume you did nothing wrong until told otherwise.
